Honoring Virginia Senator John Warner, Kennedy Center Honors Returns, Cicadas Are Stick
The Kennedy Center Honors recipients for the 43rd annual national celebration of the arts are: multi-disciplinary artist, choreographer, and actress Debbie Allen; singer-songwriter and activist Joan Baez; country singer-songwriter Garth Brooks; violinist Midori; and actor Dick Van Dyke. It will air on CBS on June 6.
Chouquette Chocolates in Maryland has decided to capitalize on the cicada invasion by serving them up as a chocolatey treat and "it's really like a chocolate covered potato chip". And the Capital Weather gang at the Washington Post wrote an article about Cicada pee. “Their pee is like watery tree sap, so it’s wise to wear a hat when walking in the woods this month. But it’s harmless, just like the cicadas that squirt it out.”
Max Scherzer doesn’t let Georgetown University’s graduation at Nats Park stop him from his routine of practicing on the field. Sean Doolittle returned to Nationals Park for the first time since signing with the Cincinnati Reds last offseason. He received a standing ovation from the crowd as well as a video tribute on the scoreboard prior to Tuesday’s game.
Rolling to Remember is back and scheduled for Sunday, May 30, expect road closures and parking restrictions for the annual event that brings thousands of motorcycles into the District to bring awareness to veterans missing in action and veteran suicide crisis in America.
We remember Senator John Warner and his legacy in Virginia as Senator for 30 years and service to this country. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and was one of five World War II veterans serving in the Senate at the time of his retirement in 2008. He was beloved for his work on both sides of the aisle. Kelly served in his Senate office as an intern.
